After a productive 18 month apprenticeship, Dan began tattooing for the public in the fall of 1998. After three years of learning and growing, he began to outgrow his surroundings just as tattooing became legal in Mass. He then moved to Springfield and began working at the fledgling Body Graphics North (an offshoot of Body Graphics in CT). After a short period of time, Dan realized his dream and bought the shop and converted it into True Self Tattoo. After years of ups and downs, many successes and failures, the shop was beginning to find its niche when Dan was diagnosed with cancer. After attempting to maintain the shop and treat the cancer clearly became too much, Dan, after much consideration, made the decision to close the doors and focus on his health.
Now, after almost two years of treatment, Dan is cancer free, feeling great, and ready to kick some ass!! "I am more than exited to be a part of the Haven crew", Dan says, "This is a new chapter for all of us, I am super motivated to focus my attention back to creating killer tattoo work, and interacting with some great new people!"
Dan tries to be a master of all styles of tattoo. Though he seems to do a lot of traditional Americana and Japanese work, he loves bright, fun color work, soft black and grey, photo-realism, and really anything else you throw his way. "I can't imagine doing any one style so much that it becomes my style, I would consider that a negative part of the job, I do everything, and I make people happy, that's the beauty of being a commercial artist, it's not always the same, my tattoo work is as different as the individuals who become clients, I can't see it being any other way, I wouldn't always wear the tattoos I do, but I'm not working for me, I'm working for them."
